She discovered athletics after participating in a mini athletics day at primary school in Melbourne, VIC, Australia. "I like speed, so I do athletics. I was really good at it due to my grandfather's genes."

She had seizures from when she was born until age two, when she was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis, a disease that causes tumours in the body. After surgery at age two to remove a tumour in the back of her head, she suffered a stroke that affected the right side of her body, especially her hand and foot. At age 13, another tumour was discovered in her head and she underwent further surgery. "The disease is genetic but I didn't get it that way, mine was just something that happened."
