After taking up Para nordic sports just under two-and-a-half years ago Canada’s Emily Young is already one of the most exciting athletes in cross country skiing. She tried skiing after injuring her arm in her former career as a wrestler and has never looked back.

Last season she won her first World Championship medal in Finsterau, helping her teammates to bronze in the Open Relay. She also finished just off the podium coming fourth in the cross country long distance race.

On the World Cup she claimed three podiums finishing second twice in the cross country sprint races in Vuokatti and Sapporo, and third in the biathlon sprint in PyeongChang, the course which will host the Paralympic competition next year.

The 26-year-old standing skier has already started her training programme for next season and is very excited about competing in her first Paralympic Games.

Here Young tells us a few things you might not know about her.

Her ‘spirit animal’

“Finding Nemo is my favourite movie! When I was racing triathlon I swam with one arm. I joked around and said that Nemo was my spirit animal.”

A love of popcorn

“Popcorn isn't just a food, it's a food group. Popcorn is my weakness and I don't think I would have it any other way!”

Musical tastes

“I listen to country music all the time! My husband and I are both huge country fans and no matter the time of year we will have it playing!”
