After a disappointing performance in Beijing, where the Belgians only conquered one bronze medal, a new outlook led to a fabulous seven medals, of which three were gold, at London 2012.

Anne d’Ieteren and Philippe Mees have been re-elected as President and Secretary General of the Belgian Paralympic Committee, respectively.

Under their leadership in the last Paralympic cycle from 2009-2012, the Belgian Paralympic Movement became an important concept in the Belgian world of sports.

After a disappointing performance in Beijing, where the Belgians only conquered one bronze medal, a new outlook led to a fabulous seven medals, of which three were gold, at London 2012.

Anne d’Ieteren, Belgian dressage champion from 1977-1982 and also Board Member of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, reinforced the relations with the Olympic sports landscape.

She was also re-elected as the President of the “Ligue Handisport Francophone,” one of the two disability sports federations that is a member of the Belgian Paralympic Committee.

The founder of para-equestrian in Belgium also sits on the Board of the Belgian Equestrian Committee, and is a member of the Para-Equestrian Technical Committee of the FEI.

Philippe Mees has already served as Secretary General the last three years, and before that was the Treasurer of the Belgian Paralympic Committee.

In his 16 years of Presidency of “Parantee,” the Flemish member of the Belgian Paralympic Committee, he managed to transform this federation into a modern, professionally organised sports federation.

The Flemish athletes won five of Belgium’s seven medals in London.

Last month, he turned over the helm to a new president, Marc Vergauwen, with the aim of further reinforcing NPC Belgium’s outlook.

The new overall Board of Directors will take effect on 1 January 2014.
