Snowboard competition to get underway at Winter Paralympics with cross events 12 Mar 2018

The Paralympic snowboard competition will kick off on Monday (12 March) with the snowboard-cross events at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre. A total of 12 medals will be up for grabs in cross-country skiing, while Para ice hockey and wheelchair curling events will continue.
Cross-country skiing
The Alpensia Biathlon Centre will stage the men’s and women’s long distance standing and vision impaired events.
Austria’s Carina Edlinger, guided by her brother Julian, will be the top contender in the women’s vision impaired after winning the World Cup crystal globe, while NPA athlete Ekaterina Rumyantseva will start as favourite in the women’s standing.
Canadian Brian McKeever will be looking to win his 11th Paralympic title in the men’s vision impaired, but will face tough opposition from Sweden’s world champion and 2017-18 World Cup champion Zebastian Modin. NPA athlete Rushan Minegulov seeks gold in the men’s standing.
Para ice hockey
After losing 3-2 to South Korea in an epic match, Czech Republic have the almost impossible task of beating USA to maintain chances of qualifying for the semi-finals. Canada will close their participation in the group stage against Norway, while Italy are hoping to defeat Sweden and advance into the semis for the first time ever.
Snowboard
The men’s and women’s snowboard cross competitions will be held at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre.
As the snowboard-cross World Cup champion, USA’s Brenna Huckaby will be the favourite to win gold in the women’s SB-LL1, as is Dutch snowboarder Lisa Bunschoten in the women’s SB-LL2.
In men’s competitions, France’s Maxime Montaggioni (SB-UL), USA’s Mike Schultz (SB-LL1) and Japan’s Gurimu Narita (SB-LL2) aim to seal their first Paralympic titles.
Wheelchair curling
The 12 matches on day three at the Gangneung Curling Centre will be: South Korea vs. Canada, Sweden vs. Slovakia, Norway vs. NPA, Finland vs. China, Germany vs. Slovakia, China vs. Switzerland, Finland vs. USA, Sweden vs. Great Britain, Switzerland vs. Norway, NPA vs. USA, Great Britain vs. Canada and South Korea vs. Germany.
