"I like the fact that it takes so much to become a good ice sledge hockey player, both technically and tactically, which means that you never get fully trained," he said. Vaernes' most memorable game was the bronze-medal game at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games when Norway beat Canada, especially because they didn't expect to win at all. Vaernes loves to play against the USA: "It's always hard, tough hockey, but it's clean. And they have a great team as well."
