The 2019 men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball European Championships will come to Poland and the Netherlands, respectively.

The men’s Division A Championships will take place between 28 August – 9 September in Swiebodzice, hosted by the Polish Basketball Federation.

The women’s edition, organised by Basketball Experience Netherlands, will be held earlier from 29 June – 9 July in Rotterdam.

Both competitions will act as the qualification tournament for the European Zone to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with the top four in both the men and women’s competitions progressing through to the Games.

“I would like to congratulate the awarded event organisers on behalf of IWBF Europe,” International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Europe President, Walter Pfaller said.

“We do believe that with the separate organisation by two nations it will create bigger awareness and popularity of wheelchair basketball in Europe.”

The announcement comes after August’s successful World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, that saw Great Britain’s men’s squad and the Dutch women’s team capture their respective gold medals.
