The documentary series WHO I AM Paralympics, which features some of the world's greatest Para athletes, is entering its third season, Japanese media company WOWOW announced this week.

Launched in 2016 as a joint project between WOWOW and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the original documentary series WHO I AM was renewed in January 2023 after the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The new season, which will start in December, will feature additional interviews and special edits of all the Japanese athletes who competed at Paris 2024 and had previously appeared in the WHO I AM series. Titled the Paris Paralympics Edition, the new season will dive behind the scenes of their quest for medals, telling brand new stories.

All episodes will be available for free on TV and streaming in Japan.

Four athletes, four episodes

The third season will feature four Japanese Para athletes who made remarkable achievements at Paris 2024.

Yui Kamiji, who claimed double golds in both the women’s wheelchair tennis singles and doubles at Paris 2024, will star in the new series. Joining her is Keiichi Kimura, who secured two gold medals in Para swimming, and wheelchair racer Tomoya Ito, who won a bronze medal in Paris where he was competing as the oldest athlete from Japan.

Wheelchair tennis player Tokito Oda, the youngest-ever Paralympic men’s singles champion, will also be featured.

“This year, my peak was at the Paris Paralympics. I hope people can see the journey I took leading up to that moment and wonder what lies ahead for me,” the 18-year-old Oda said.

“The Paralympics stand out the most this year. I won at both the Australian and French Opens, but couldn’t clinch Wimbledon. Then I took gold in Paris. The time at Wimbledon was quite reflective and I think it was special in its own way.

“Next year, I want to win the Australian Open and finally conquer the US Open, the only Grand Slam I haven’t won yet."
