The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons congratulated Thomas Bach on his re-election as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President for another four-year term until 2025.

Parsons said: “Congratulations from the IPC to Thomas Bach on his re-election as IOC President. Thomas has been a good friend and strong ally of the Paralympic Movement throughout his Presidency. When I was elected as IPC President in September 2017, my number one priority was strengthening the IPC’s relationship with our most important strategic partner, the IOC. Three years ago, today in PyeongChang, Thomas and myself signed the Long-Term Agreement, establishing a partnership between the IPC and IOC until at least 2032. In 2021, our bond is the strongest it’s ever been and the IPC benefits from excellent co-operation and support from all levels of the IOC and the Olympic Movement.

“I would also add that Thomas and the IOC have shown great leadership in the last year since the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. They have been unstinting in their determination to ensure that there are Games for the athletes to compete in. These are incredibly important Paralympic Games for the IPC as we seek to transform the world through sport and create a platform for the one billion people on this planet with disabilities. So thank you to all at the IOC for their support.”
