About the Torch
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Torch will be carried by 501 people ahead of the Opening Ceremony at the Arena di Verona, sparking excitement for the second Paralympic Winter Games in Italy and leaving a lasting memory for the torchbearers, athletes and fans from around the world.
The torch is named “Essential” because of its minimalistic design. The bronze colour of the Paralympic Torch represents the Mountains of Light, celebrating Paralympic athletes’ strength and the power of their courage to reshape the world.
After the Paralympic Flame is lit in Stoke Mandeville, UK, the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement, on 24 February 2026, the Flame will be carried by torchbearers, covering a distance of 2,000 kilometres in Italy, before the Opening Ceremony on 6 March.
Design
The Paralympic Torch is lightweight, weighing approximately 1,060 grams excluding the fuel cannister and is crafted from recycled materials – aluminum and brass alloy. It is the first of its kind, leaving the lightest environmental footprint.
The torches are made in Italy and were developed/designed by Eni, Premium Partner of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, in collaboration with Versailis.
The Torch features an open design that, for the first time, reveals its technological components, allowing torchbearers and the public to witness and understand how the flame is generated.
Sustainability is the core of the Torch, as it runs on bio-LPG, which is made exclusively from renewable raw materials. The Torch symbolizes technology, innovation, and sustainability. The exterior is crafted using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technology, which gives the Torch its reflective effect that allows it to blend in with its surroundings, throughout its historic path from Stoke Mandeville to the Games in Italy.
