Mike Schultz leads the way in Klovsjo

Paralympic champion takes one of USA's two World Cup golds on Friday as Australia and Italy also triumph in snowboard cross events in Sweden 28 Jan 2022

USA riders picked two gold medals on day one of the Klovsjo 2022 World Cup in Sweden on Friday (28 January).
Australia and Italy also triumphed in the snowboard cross events. 

A week after his bronze medal at the World Championships in Lillehammer, Norway USA’s Paralympic champion Mike Schultz dominated the men’s SB-LL1 in Sweden.

Dutch rider Chris Vos finished second followed by Lillehammer bronze medallist Tyler Burdick of USA in third. Another US snowboarder, Thomas Wilson ended in fourth.

Brenna Huckaby won the women’s multiclass race beating Netherlands’ Lisa Bunschoten into second. It was also bronze to USA with Katlyn Maddry finishing ahead of compatriot Brittani Coury.

Italy picked two medals in the men’s SB-UL race with Jacopo Luchini in first place and Mirko Moro in third. Great Britain’s James Barnes-Miller separated the two taking silver. 

In the men’s SB-LL2 it was a fabulous Friday for Australia’s Ben Tudhope who won his race to take gold ahead of USA’s Keith Gable (silver), Joe Pleban (bronze) and Garrett Geros (fourth).

The Klovsjo World Cup continues on Saturday with another of snowboard cross events. 

Sweden hosts the penultimate event of the 2021-2022 World Cup with Big White, Canada wrapping up the season from 8 to 12 February.

Klovsjo also hosted a multiclass Europa Cup race on Friday with Austria’s Bernhard Hammerl winning the men’s event ahead of Russia’s Yevgeniy Slepov and Portugal’s Pedro Herdeiro.
