Media advisory: IPC General Assembly schedule
Detailed programme for event in Abu Dhabi now available 30 Aug 2017Media are advised of the following media gathering opportunities and announcements during the IPC Conference and General Assembly which takes place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, next week.
Please note that all sessions between 5-8 September will be livestreamed between 09:00 and 17:30 via the IPC website Paralympic.org.
All times stated are local time in Abu Dhabi unless stated and only accredited media can attend the IPC Conference and General Assembly.
Monday 4 September
Conclusion of the IPC Governing Board meeting
16:30 - Tokyo 2020 medal event programme
The IPC will announce the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games medal programme and athlete quotas at 14:30CET/21:30JST. The announcement will be via press release to the IPC media list and via Paralympic.org
The approval by the IPC Governing Board follows the conclusion of 10-month-long exercise, whereby each International Federation was asked to propose and justify their medal events and athletes quotas for the Games.
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games between 25 August and 6 September will feature 22 sports with badminton and taekwondo featuring for the first time.

A number of presentations will be given by the IPC management team and committee members during the morning session.
09:00-09:45 - Diversity in the Paralympic Movement
Presented by Mike Peters, IPC Chief of Staff, and Peter Van de Vliet, IPC Medical and Scientific Director
09:45-10:30 - IPC Sport Competition Costs Presented by Ryan Montgomery, IPC Summer Sport Director
11:00-12:30 - Open discussion on the criteria for inclusion of sports and disciplines in future Paralympic Games Presented by Matt Smith, Chairperson IPC Paralympic Games Committee
14:00-17:30 - Progress reports provided by future Paralympic host cities The host cities of the next three Paralympic Games will deliver progress reports to the IPC membership.
14:45-15:30 - PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games Presented by Mr. Hee Beom Lee, President of PyeongChang 2018
16:00-16:45 - Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Presented by Mr. Toshiro Muto, CEO of Tokyo 2020
16:45-17:30 - Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games Presented by Mr. Yong Lu, Vice President of Beijing 2022
Wednesday 6 September
09:00-16:15 - Presentations by candidates standing in the IPC Governing Board elections
From 09:00 to 16:15 all candidates standing in the IPC Governing Board elections will have the opportunity to present to the IPC membership.
During the morning session (09:00-12:45), candidates seeking to be elected as a Member at Large will have up to seven minutes to present their case.
In the afternoon session (14:15-16:15), candidates for President and Vice President will have up to 15 minutes to present.
A draw will take place at the start of each session to determine the running order for the presentations.
16:30 - Update on the suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee The IPC President will hold a briefing with attending media in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to provide an update on the suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC).
The RPC’s suspension will be discussed at the IPC Governing Board meeting on 4 September following an update by the IPC Taskforce on the RPC’s progress in meeting the reinstatement criteria.
Following the media briefing a press release will be issued to the IPC media list and uploaded to Paralympic.org

19:30-21:30 - 2017 Paralympic Sport and Media Awards
Hosted by Australia’s three-time Paralympian Katrina Webb and the IPC’s Director of Media and Communications Craig Spence, the 2017 Paralympic Sport and Media Awards, supported by Allianz, will recognise achievements on and off the field of play from the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in nine categories.
In addition, the BP Courage Award will be presented to one individual organisation and a number of people will be presented with the Paralympic Order.
