Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 has announced that Rai has secured the exclusive media rights for Italy for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

Under the agreement between Rai and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, Italian audiences will have access to extensive, free-to-air, multi-channel coverage of the event that will take place from 6 to 15 March 2026 across Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige, highlighting the world’s premier sporting event for persons with disabilities.

A return to its origins: Italy, which hosted the first Paralympic Games in history in Rome in 1960, is once again preparing to showcase a moment that will further advance the global Paralympic Movement. And it will be Rai that brings into the homes of Italians both the sporting achievements and the personal journeys of the up to 665 athletes competing in 79 medal events, through Rai’s free-to-air broadcasting and digital platforms (RaiPlay).

Coverage will be provided on the main Rai channels and across all of the public broadcaster’s platforms, featuring live events, in-depth reports, and original productions that spotlight both the athletes and the host territories. Competitions and ceremonies will unfold across Milan, Cortina, Verona, and Val di Fiemme. It will be a narrative that brings together the power of sport and the beauty of the landscapes surrounding the Games, showcasing to the world the dynamic, vibrant energy of contemporary Italy.

Giampaolo Rossi, CEO of Rai, said: “For the Public Service, sport is much more than great entertainment: it is a universal language that unites, educates, and helps create a more open and inclusive society.

“Telling the story of the Paralympic Games means highlighting extraordinary journeys of courage and talent, giving all citizens the chance to recognise themselves in the most genuine values of sport. Rai is proud to lend its voice, its technology, and its cultural mission to celebrate an event that perfectly embodies the spirit of public service.”

Andrea Varnier, CEO of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, said: “Italy has a unique bond with the Paralympic Movement. In 1960, Rome hosted the first Paralympic Games in history — the event that sparked everything we see today. With Milano Cortina 2026, this bond is renewed and strengthened. We are pleased that Rai will bring these stories into the homes of all Italians: the Games are not only about competition, but also an endless source of inspiration, resilience, and national pride.”

In addition to sports coverage, Rai will contribute through dedicated programming aimed at promoting a more inclusive and informed sports culture.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games — which will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympics — will feature six sports: Para alpine skiing, Para biathlon, Para cross-country skiing, Para ice hockey, Para snowboard and wheelchair curling.

The Opening Ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will take place at the Arena di Verona on 6 March 2026, while the Closing Ceremony will be held in Cortina at the Olympic Ice Stadium on 15 March 2025.
