Medals were awarded in 12 events on Day 1 of the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. And there’s no let up on Day 2, with medals to be won in six biathlon events and four snowboard cross finals.

Masters and Gretsch shoot for another shared podium

A further six medals are up for grabs in Para biathlon at Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium, in all categories of the individual event. Women’s individual sitting starts at 10:00 CET.

The USA’s Oksana Masters made a start on her 2026 Paralympic medal collection with gold in Saturday’s sprint sitting, her 20th Paralympic podium finish. But compatriot Kendall Gretsch will be keen to swap spots, following yesterday’s silver.

Masters said the pair raise each other’s game.

"It's just incredible to obviously have one and two from USA, and not just one and two USA but your friend that is a great competitor and also a friend off the field too,” she said. "She pushes me in the range, and I feel like we push each other on the course. It's extra special to be able to stand side by side with a friend and my teammate."

France’s Daviet hopes for hat trick

France’s Benjamin Daviet aims to retain his men’s individual standing Para biathlon title.

“I come into these Games with a lot of desire and less stress compared with the previous Games,” he said on Friday (6 March).

“First and foremost, the aim is to be 200% on the skis and at the shooting range. I think that, if I manage to put together complete races, the results will follow."

Daviet will battle Canada’s Mark Arendz who chases gold at a third consecutive Games.

Watch out for USA debutant Delson

The Para snowboard heats get underway at the Cortina Para Snowboard Park at 11:00 CET. The finals start at 12:30 CET, with medals to be awarded in all the snowboard cross categories.

The USA's Kate Delson is one to watch. She makes her Paralympic debut weeks after claiming the overall FIS Crystal Globe on the world cup circuit.

“I really want to go into the Paralympic Games with no expectations,” she said. “That’s a lot easier said than done. I’ve been doing everything I can to ride my best and I’m confident that if keep up this trajectory, it will result in a podium finish.”

Can Canada's Tyler Turner defend his title?

Defending champion Tyler Turner put down the fastest seeding run in the men’s Para snowboard cross SB-LL1 on Saturday, ahead of Dutch rider Chris Vos.

Turner became Canada’s first Paralympic snowboard champion at Beijing 2022, where he also took bronze in the banked slalom.

"If someone beats me, they're very excited to beat me,” he said.

“That keeps pushing this sport to the next level, and I'm grateful to be a part of that."

Hosts face champions in wheelchair curling

In wheelchair curling, the mixed team and mixed doubles round robin sessions continue, with the mixed doubles medal matches scheduled for Wednesday (11 March).

China, aiming for a third consecutive gold, face hosts Italy in the mixed team event at 09:35 CET at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Despite opening their campaign with a 12-7 win over the USA, skip Haitao Wang believes he has room for improvement.

"It should have been an easy game to play well, but I still didn't perform to my standard,” he said. “My teammates played exceptionally well today, whereas I made too many mistakes. Being unfamiliar with this rink and the ice conditions in our first game led to quite a few errors."
